Are you a budding filmmaker, actor, writer, or creative with a story to tell? This summer, young people across Spelthorne are being invited to take part in an exciting new initiative — the Spelthorne Youth Film Festival, a project created by young people, for young people.
A new Youth Collective is forming to shape arts and cultural activity across the borough, using Staines Library as a central hub for events. One of the first big ideas to emerge from this group is a youth-led film festival — a bold and inspiring project sparked by a passionate young filmmaker with a vision and now supported by local organisations and arts professionals.
The festival aims to showcase the creativity of young people across the borough — and we want you to be part of it.
What’s it all about?
If you’re aged 11 to 25 and have a connection to Spelthorne, you are warmly invited to submit a short film (between 1 to 20 minutes) in any genre. Whether it’s drama, documentary, comedy, animation, or something totally unique — this is your platform to create, express, and share your ideas.
All films will be judged by a panel made up of members of the Youth Collective, representatives from Escalate Arts, local dignitaries, and industry professionals.
Key dates:
- 8 July – Film Screening at Shepperton Studios:
Come and support two original short films created by local young people, being screened as part of a celebratory event. It’s also a great chance to meet the Youth Collective. - 21 July – Festival Launch Night:
This evening will share all the key information about taking part, including tips on putting a team together and exploring the different roles involved in making a film. A guest speaker will offer insights into the film-making process. - Summer Workshops – Dates TBC:
