Course intent
Strong for Longer is a collection of strength and confidence-building courses adapted to you, whatever
your stage in life. These unique courses provide you with an opportunity to regain and maintain the skills and knowledge to protect your health now and in the future. Strong for Longer courses are aimed at adults of all ages looking to increase their day-to-day movement and improve their muscle strength.
This course is Iyengar Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is a precise and careful style of yoga, paying strong attention
to correct postural alignment and body awareness, so it鈥檚 an excellent starting point for those new to
Yoga practice.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
路 A range of yoga postures in standing and seated positions.
路 Breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques.
路 How to use blocks and bolsters, to help you achieve better alignment.
The system of teaching Iyengar Yoga is methodical, structured and progressive, emphasising detailed correctness and safety. The course will work at your level.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Strong for Longer courses are ideal if you:
路 Want to start or reintroduce Yoga into your week.
路 Want to exercise seated or holding onto a barre.
路 Feel confident with light to moderate physical activity.
路 Want to maintain or rehabilitate strength and movement.
Our expert tutors will adapt all movements to suit individual health & wellbeing needs. This course is not suitable for an improver or advanced levels.
What do I need to bring to the first class?
Before the first lesson:

路 Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to reach up and bend down. Add an extra warm layer or light blanket for use in relaxation.
路 Yoga is practised with bare feet.
路 Bring a bottle of drinking water. The centre has fountains to refill.
路 You will use a yoga mat. Please bring your own or borrow one of ours.
路 You may use blocks. Please bring your own or borrow ours.
What can I do when I finish the course?
When you finish your course, you can either enrol on another Strong for Longer course to maintain good physical health or use the course as a stepping stone to our more challenging courses when you feel stronger and more confident.
Additional Information
We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you
would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will
then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may
not be able to contact you before your first class. We value and support equality, diversity and inclusion
